About Me

Everyone on the internet knows me as "D~", so I am just going to keep that here.  :)  It's not my real name, but it's close enough.

I am 39 years old.  Besides being on this journey to improve my health.  I enjoy sewing as a hobby, as a total accident, I've managed to turn it into a full-time thriving business.  I also enjoy planning & taking my girls on trips to Disney World, we have been on 3 "girls trips" over the last 3 years, and it's something we all enjoy doing together.  I also enjoy reading other blogs, especially on topics that interest me (Paleo and Primal eating, sewing, crafts, fashion...) - often after dinner - you will find me on the couch with my tablet catching up on my favorites.  But mostly - I just love spending time with my family doing whatever it is we happen to be doing.

My amazing husband and I live in MN.  We have been married for 17 years.  He works full time at a local hospital in the IT department.  In his spare time, he enjoys pheasant hunting - he is quite active in our local Pheasants Forever chapter.  He is an excellent griller - on Sundays he fires up his smoker and makes a huge batch of  "meat"...  In this case - he and I are the perfect compliment to eachother...  He makes the meat - and I eat it.  ;)  He also enjoys doing projects around the house, he has extensively and single-handedly remodeled our home over the last several years.  We also love taking his Jeep out for rides when the weather is nice...  but, like most Minnesotans - as soon as the weather turns cold, we hibernate.

We have 2 girls...  Our oldest (Alli) is going to be 17 in the spring.  She is an amazing photographer and a fun girl who has the ability to make everyone around her smile.

Our youngest (V) will be 16 in the spring.  She is a very talented girl who enjoys many of the crafty things I cannot do...  Like crochet and draw...  I love seeing her express herself this way!

We also have a 2 year old Golden Retreiver (Max or MM) who is a crazy guy!  He has added so much fun and mischief to our family!

Oh and let's not forget V's 6 month old Hedgehog (Lottie) and Alli's fish (Finnley).

From an eating standpoint, my family does not eat Primally at all, which causes many challenges.

My husband is very much a "Conventional Wisdom" type guy - he doesn't diet at all normally, but if he feels he needs to lose - he does it by calorie restriction alone...  He is also very much a "meat & potatoes" type person - he does not enjoy food at all that deviates from the norm...  So, cauliflour mashed potatoes - totally out.  Anything deemed "Paleo or Primal" also out.

My oldest daughter is a vegetarian - which is almost polar opposite to my Primal eating - this causes a lot of difference of opinion between the two of us, but we both agree not to push our beliefs onto one another.  She is at an age, where if vegetarianism is what she believes in - I would much rather her express herself by her food choices than by other things, like drugs or alcohol.  We monitor her blood tests quite regularily - and if she is deficient on anything - we are careful to make sure she gets those nutrients.  Even though I don't agree with her way of eating, nor do I think it's healthy, we are amicable about it.

Now, my youngest daughter - who up until the last year - has been the fussiest eater of all of us, she is quite easy to please these days, considering the rest of our eating choices.  LOL  There are a few certain foods she doesn't like, and prefers not to eat - but for the most part, she will pick something off the table and eat it - whatever it may be. Between all of us, she can usually find something she likes.

Most days, I am able to accomodate all of our eating styles without much effort...  I make some meat, lots of veggies, sometimes a potato or a bread - and that pretty much covers everyone.  But it's nights like when we have spaghetti - it gets a little difficult and a lot more effort has to be put into it.  I usually try to save nights like that for when I have more time.

And that's all...  We are pretty boring people, actually.
